Who usually asks this question
A tourist staying in João Pessoa for 4-7 days, who hears about Porto de Galinhas and wants to know if it makes sense to include without changing hotels. Short answer: yes, if you have days to spare and want to see a different destination. But if you have 2-3 days, it's better to enjoy Jampa — which has equivalent natural pools with simpler logistics.
How the day trip works
We pick you up at the hotel in the morning, about 2h30 to 3h drive in a comfortable vehicle to Porto de Galinhas (PE). Free time at the destination to enjoy as you like: village with shops and restaurants, central beach, natural pools via jangada (paid on-site) and lunch (not included). At night, return to João Pessoa. R$ 160 per person, round-trip transport. Photo ID mandatory.
What to expect at the natural pools
Porto de Galinhas' natural pools are famous: coral formations a few meters from the beach that create open-air aquariums with colorful fish and green-crystal water. You take a jangada from the central beach to the pools. It's a paid experience there (not included in the R$ 160 of the day trip) — varies by season and group size. Worth negotiating and checking the price before boarding.
Honest comparison: Porto de Galinhas vs. Seixas and Picãozinho
The natural pools in Porto de Galinhas and in João Pessoa (Seixas, Picãozinho, Areia Vermelha) are similar in concept: corals that form pools at low tide. The real difference is logistics. In Jampa, you leave the hotel, do the tour in 3h, and you're back in the afternoon. In Porto de Galinhas, it's a full-day logistics with 5-6h of road. For those with time, the experience is worth it. For those tight on days, better prioritize Jampa.
When the day trip IS (and ISN'T) worth it
Worth it: you have 5+ days in João Pessoa, you've done Jampa's main tours, you want to see a different northeastern destination, and you're OK with a full day of logistics. Not worth it: you have 2-3 days, you're focused on Jampa, or you prefer a slow pace. The day trip consumes the whole day — whether it's the best use of your days is a priority decision.
Other day-trip options
If you want to see another northeastern destination from João Pessoa, we also offer day trips to Praia de Pipa (RN, ~2h drive) and Natal (RN, ~3h drive). Pipa has a charming village and paradise beaches. Natal has the World's Largest Cashew Tree and Ponta Negra. Both R$ 160 per person, round-trip. ID mandatory.
